The unit connects with cable through the recorder USB-A port. The first boot will prompt you to select your mixer model. A simple USB hub can be used to keep other things connected. The controller will wait 14 seconds for the 8 series to be fully ready to talk.
Press and hold the right button while booting up. You can now select a mixer model.
Reboot the mixer, and navigate to the 8 series menu: Controllers -> Third party controllers -> Mapping. Choose "Learn". Navigate to the ID.TFX page that says "Custom MIDI". Single press an encoder. A new midi entry should appear. Choose a function from the list. These shortcuts are saved and will now fire with the single press when in "custom MIDI" mode
This controller will store its fader values, the currently selected "menu item" and the selected mixer model in its flash memory. Since this controller is communicating one-way only, the ID.TFX will not know if you have been changing the fader values (for the extra channels) using another method such as SD remote, directly in the mixer or using a third controller. It will also not know if you plug it into a another 8 series machine. ID.TFX will always "take over" from where it's at, similarly to a non-motorized fader board. This does not apply to TRIM values, as those do not rely on an absolute value and are always stored in the 8 series. I have tested this unit together with CL16, but I have not tested with every other combination of third party controllers, tablets etc. out there.
Every bag configuration is different, and you will probably have to get creative in terms of mounting this thing. It is made so it sits nicely on top of the XL-AES. I've included a belt clip style mount, and I will probably come up with free to download 3D print designs at a later moment. The included M3 screws are only intended for attaching a mount, do not screw them into the bare unit.
I might make some improvements to the software from time to time. To enter firmware flashing mode, press and hold the left button while plugging the controller into a computer (mac or PC). A USB storage drive will appear, and it's a drag and drop procedure from there. As of Jan 6 2025, there's a FW v 1.2 adding support for 888 + 4 plugin (ch 9-20). Also added 4 more channels to the Scorpio mode (ch 13-24). Check my website shop.iddqd.dk for fw updates. No other changes were made.
