Description
This product came into existence because I was doing a live stream job, where I had to feed a mix to broadcast as well as an unattended ceiling speaker system in the room. Not having a quick way to adjust that PA output was a bit terrifying, so I came up with this solution. It saved me at least once from a feedback disaster. I have also used it as a VCA / bus fader for grouped participants in a TV show. Since 8 series recorders will allow you to assign any output or bus to the main fader, I can think of many use cases for this little thing. It weighs only 25 grams.
The enclosure is made from PLA. USB C plugs in from the bottom
The current fader value is sent to the recorder upon boot up after a 12 second initialization time, and from there it works like any other fader.
Please bare in mind, this is a homemade product, made to order, hand-soldered and 3D printed in my basement while the kids were asleep. It is not going to have the look and feel of the very expensive sound equipment we all use and love, but I am sure you will find it useful it anyways. I have taken some high res photos, so what you see is what you get.
FAQ:
Will this work on my 633/664/688?
No – these fader units are only compatible with Sound Devices 8 series.
Can I use multiple USB fader controllers at a time?
Yes – you can use a USB hub to plug in several controllers.
Can I choose which bus/output the main fader controls myself?
Yes, for the main fader you can change which bus or output to control in the Sound Devices 8 series menu. Go to menu – controllers – third party controllers – main fader
What’s the delivery time?
Once you’ve place your order, I will make, test and ship the unit within 7 days.
Why is there no USB cable included?
Because I’m sure you already have one laying around. Just make sure it’s an actual data USB cable and not a two pin charge cable. If you absolutely must buy a USB cable from me, that’s OK: USB C cable 50 cm
